Moonbuggy Design Award Criteria
A design
competition will be held of all moonbuggy entries. Two awards will be
presented for "Best Design". One each to the best High School entry and
best College entry. A team of judges selected by the AIAA Al-Miss section
will determine, based on the material presented, which entries produced,
documented and explained, the machine's design features to best meet the
MoonBuggy best price to robust performance requirement.
Note:
This judgment is based on the professional opinion of the judges and not
on the race results! The design competition will be composed of two parts:
Written.

Each
team will supply documentation detailing their design.

The
teams documentation should answer the "who, what, where, how, and
why's" of the design. Questions to be answered shall include, but
not limited to:
- Who
are the members of your team?
- Who
was responsible for what part of the project?
- What
did it cost?, What would a second vehicle cost?
- Where
did you do the work?
- What
materials do you make the Moonbuggy from?
- How
did you design it?
- How
did you build it?
- How
did you pay for it?
- What
design features enhance the robustness of the moonbuggy to ensure
survival on the race course?
- Why
did you design it that way?
- What
part is most likely to break? Why? What can/should be done to minimize
the effects of this failure?
- What
is the most important lesson learned on the project to date?

Documentation
shall
be limited to 10 (8.5x11) pages (10 single sided or 5 double sided)or
equivalent. Documentation in excess of 10 pages may be submitted but
will not be distributed to the judges.

may be sent by one of the following three options:

If the email option is used, please send a postcard or letter
by regular mail to the above address so that we may confirm your submission.
- Web Page: Send web page address
to the above e-mail. Request confirmation that your information has
been received.
Oral
- On race
day each team will present a short briefing explaining the features
of their MoonBuggy design. The teams MoonBuggy must be present for this
briefing.
- A one
page pamphlet may be distributed as part of this briefing.
- The briefers
will answers any questions asked by the design judges.
- Only
students may present/answer questions at this briefing (translators
will be allowed if needed). Answers by Advisers will be penalized!
- Safety
features and required equipment will be checked at the briefing. Note:
This is not the only time these will be checked.
